New Zealand in the search for the reform of their authors ‘right law

Authors in New Zealand gathered yesterday with the authorities of their country, with the purpose of initiating a reform to the author’s ´rights law, which seeks to obtain recognition of audiovisual Works of the creators in that country.

Authorities of DEGNZ – Directors and Editors Guild of New Zealand – representing Directors, Editors and Audiovisual Edition Assistants – held a meeting with the Minister of Broadcasting, Communication and Digital Media, Kris Faafoi, responsible of the reform of authors ‘rights law, as New Zealand does not expressly recognize creators in their actual legislation. Authors´right is a primary necessity for the culture of a country, and their creators are the fundamental matter in this business. The defence of their rights is the defence of their work and means of subsistence.

W&DW – Writers and Directors Worldwide together with their regional Alliance AAPA – Alliance of Asia-Pacific Audiovisual Writers and Directors, highlighted the necessity to meet with New Zealand authorities with the objective of working on a reform of the law, which recognizes their inalienable and untransferable right of Audiovisual Authors in their territory.
